Football Today
58I'm 26 years old and the football i saw when i was 13, 14 it was not the same i see today, and it's difficult to say if it changed for better or worst. Some people share the first opinion and some the second, i personally think it depends on what you want from the game, if you want pure magic, art and talent maybe the football today is worst then before, but if you prefer tactics, intelligence, speed, then now is the right time.
The football today goes toward a global football where the lines that define a country style are disappearing, for example, England was known for the "kick and rush", the Italians for the defensive style of play, the Germans for a very physical and objective play style. All these technical features are vanishing, football follows what happens in the world generally, we have a globalized world so we also have a globalized football.
We see more and more Brazilians playing in England, Argentinians playing in Italy, or players from the african countries in Germany, this has built the global and unique football we have today.
Players and coaches are affected in this globalization process too.
Players:
Players that can do more than one position, that can attack and defend, what is usually called box to box are now the perfect ones. Names like Lampard, Gerrard, Xavi, and many others, represent the new era of the football players. We don't have anymore the traditional number 10 that only plays in one square behind the striker. The forwards must be the firsts to defend and the defenders the firsts to attack, the real meaning for "work as a group". A global and modern team where everyone helps in all the tasks of the football today.
Coaches:
Even the coaches are not only coaches now, bigger responsibilities are over their shoulders. Tactical knowledge, players observation, were and still are some important aspects of a good team leader, but now the coach must be able to establish a good relationship with all the players, wich is an important and basic step to success, before anything else, he needs to be a good psychologist. Some good examples of nowadays team leaders are Jose Mourinho, Guus Hiddink or Rafael Benitez. Some of them can even manage economic aspects related with the football team.
Football today is an industry that moves huge amounts of money every day, and gathers millions of people around the world, but that would be a topic for another post.
